A Strong Start to My Career at Tropos
By Tea Reçica, Data Analytics Consultant
Starting my career at Tropos has honestly been the best possible way to enter this field. Looking back on my first six months, what stands out most is how much I’ve grown in a relatively short time.
I have learned a lot technically, but also in how I approach problems, work with others, ask better questions, and find my place in the role.
Learning the Foundations
My journey at Tropos began with a three-week onboarding period. Through courses, certifications, and hands-on exercises, I was introduced to the technical side of the job: data warehousing, dbt, Snowflake, Power BI, AWS, and the broader logic behind how everything fits together.
What I liked most about that period was that it wasn’t just theory for the sake of theory. We ended our training with an onboarding project where we could immediately apply what we had learned, which made the transition into actual project work feel much more natural.
Support from Day One
Starting your first job can be overwhelming, but thankfully, that is something they truly consider at Tropos. In my first few months, I had a buddy who was there to answer any questions I had and help me feel welcome and settled in.
I was very lucky to have such a great buddy by my side, but at Tropos, you are constantly surrounded by supportive people. From fellow engineers to project managers, everyone understood that starting your first job is a process. There was trust, but also the right amount of guidance, which gave me the confidence to grow into the role step by step.
Learning by Doing on Real Projects
After onboarding, I was able to contribute to a project quite quickly, and that was when things really started to click. I began learning by doing, which gave me a much clearer picture of what data engineering actually looks like in practice.
dbt and Snowflake quickly became the main tools I worked with, but I also got involved in the broader workflow by analysing tickets, joining grooming sessions, and working through solutions with the team. I really liked that, because it meant I wasn’t just completing isolated tasks, but also gaining a better understanding of how everything fits together as a whole.
Taking Ownership and Working with Clients
More recently, I had the opportunity to take on a project of my own, which has been an important next step for me. It came with more responsibility, but also more exposure to the business side of the job.
I now get to speak directly with clients, which has been a valuable learning experience. It has taught me a lot about understanding what a client actually needs, asking the right questions, and translating that into technical solutions.
What I’ve really enjoyed in this process is being involved in more than just one piece of the puzzle. I like seeing how something evolves from the initial request to the final solution, and understanding how all the different parts connect along the way. For me, that end-to-end perspective makes the work much more interesting.
Reflecting on My First Six Months
What makes these first six months stand out is not just how much I’ve learned, but how quickly I felt I could truly contribute. That shift—from starting out to being able to add real value—made these first months feel like a very strong beginning.
Starting your career is a big step, and naturally, it comes with some uncertainty. But for me, Tropos has been exactly the right place to take that step. It has given me the opportunity to learn, take on responsibility, and discover what I genuinely enjoy in this field.
When I look at where I started and where I am now, I mostly feel grateful—for the opportunities, the trust, and the people who have helped me along the way. I honestly couldn’t have wished for a better place to start my career.
